soapbox [07 Nov 2007|04:40pm]

after hearing that elliott yamin song ['wait for you'] on the radio for the 4 millionth time today, i've got it figured out why the song annoys me so much.  because when it starts i think s club 7's 'never had a dream come true' is about to take me back to a time of yore and fondness.  But sike! (or 'pschye!' if you're into grammar), that fool completely ganked their intro like vanilla ice on queen&david bowie.

perhaps no one has seen this similarity, cares, or even remembers s club 7 from the 90's, but you know your girl's got you covered on all things of the late 20th century, so i figured i'd share in the annoyance.
plus, the word "yamin" just reminds me of the 10 cent "ramen" noodles.

if you care to check it out:

is it just me, or does Paris' handwriting look like a first grader who's just learning how to string together sentences?  As if you thought she was a Rhodes Scholar in the first place...
Also, I laughed at "as I sit here in my cell, sad and alone."  Cry another tune, little heiress, cry another tune.

Potter Madness Extravaganza in less than one month, kiddies!  Hoorah!   Your's truly, the party mistress, is brimming with joy about the upcoming festivities - but is still experiencing computer (ehem, namely Facebook) difficulties.  As Project Runway's Tim Gunn would say, we'll make it work.  The new house is shaping up nicely, and the boxes are unfilling each day.  This is starting to sound like one of those Christmas/End of the Year family newsletters...my apologies...

Anyway, get your sorting hats ready, friends.

new news [21 May 2007|09:55pm]
the Goodpaster clan is relocating.
only less than a mile from where we live now.
but still.
actually, Craig Copack lives right up the street.
he came into work the other day, still with the same girlfriend.  she looks like a veela.
speaking of veelas...
i'm offering up our new digs for the Potter Party Extravaganza! (that is, if no one else wanted first dibs).
so nobody plan anything between the dates of the book and movie release(s) - July 13th - 21st
i'm thinking we could all pick (character) names out of a hat, and then dress up as that character, just so we don't have 10 harry's or 10 hermione's.
and possibly everybody could come up with one small appetizer-like dish to bring the ingredients for, and then all bake/cook together
anyway, just throwing around potential ideas - let me know what you all want to do, because miss cleo sees a rad party in all of our futures.

ps- continuing in the potter vein, tonight on dancing with the stars (no shame) one of the judges told joey fatone that "as soon as you jumped off that stage like harry potter on a nimbus two-thousand, it was great!"
needless to say, a hearty laugh was enjoyed by all.

Dear Friends,

Today as I was sitting at the train tracks waiting on the impossibly long train to pass by, I noted the bumper sticker on the car in front of me.

"Re-elect Hillary" it read.

I was befuddled.  sort of.  and then i started to giggle to myself.

#1 Thought: Hillary (as in, Hillary Clinton - now only known by one name - you know, like Cher or Madonna or Brangelina) has never been elected President of the United States.  How can she be re-elected?

#2 Thought: Some believe that while Bill (that is, Mr. Clinton, ehem former President Clinton) was in office, much of the whole, umm, "running the country" thing should be greatly credited to his dear wife. (and maybe some credit to Chelsea, and maybe some to Spot, the dog - but who's counting?).  However, if this were really true, that she spent two terms running this country, can she really, legally run for a third?  Who does she think she is, a Roosevelt?

#3 Thought: In all practicality, Hillary was(is?) an elected Senator from the state of New York (we won't delve into her literal residency, however).  And maybe this bumper sticker was confused, even in the very un-New York state of Florida, and petitioning that Hillary be re-elected to the position of Senator, if that's even governmentally possible at this point.  You see, I never paid much attention in Freshman U.S. Government.  But I digress.  Either way, re-elect Hillary as a Senator?  Nah, that can't be

#4 Thought: No, no, really.  It was probably just affirming that Hillary should be re-elected to a government position.  Heck, maybe even for Circuit Court Judge?  Governor of North Dakota?  Mayor of Tampa?  Nope.  She's goin' straight for the top, ladies and gents.

#5 Thought:  But seriously, if she wins, will she be called "Mrs. President?"  And will Bill be called the "First Man?"

#6 Thought:  I don't know who I'm voting for - it appears that both parties - you know who they are - are incapable of doing anything productive except for clearly pointing out the other's faults. A whole bunch of blah, blah, blah with no results if you ask me.  But you didn't, so never mind.

#7 Thought:  Screw the 2008 elections, the 5th Harry Potter movie and 7th Harry Potter book are coming out in July, and let's be honest, Spiderman 3 SUCKED.

that's all.

Dear Tina Brown,

For a hearty laugh, please go to the LJ group [info]pearlswine and read yesterday's and today's comics.
(For daily laughter, you can subscribe to the group, that way you'll never be out of the pearls before swine loop again! Hooray!)

Thank you, and good day.

With warmest regards, especially for the nutella wraps that i savor each day now,

sometimes college makes me feel like all my good friends are really far away.
this sounds like i'm an egotistical asshole, but no one laughs at/with me anymore.
they're all most are just concerned with getting their private school educations and going back to their dorms to sleep off their previous night's hangover.
not a lot of kids get the dry and morbid humor.
the other day some girl was coughing incessantly, and i turned around (jokingly) and told her "that's enough"
she glared at me like i was the wicked witch of the west.
then i told her i was just kidding, and again, she glared back at me like "umm, a joke that doesn't make someone feel better about themself is soooooo not funnyyyyy"
they don't get that purposeful awkwardness should be laughed at, not taken seriously.
i'm feeling more settled, but i'm missing you guys.
come home for spring break.
let's go out to dinner or something.
only talking to my parents and Gary everyday is getting a little tired.

side note: my english professor asked me if i was prepared to live in a box the rest of my life for being an english major.
way to boost a sister's confidence, prof.

it's getting pretty lonely and quiet around here.  i know that you're supposed make all these lifelong friends in college, but i keep finding after all this time that i only want to spend time and be friends with my friends from high school.  and most of you are not here.  bummer.  so seriously, send me your addresses.  you know, like u.s postal service addresses so i can write you all letters and send you clippings of all the funny comics, and we can chatterbanter like we used to.

because i don't want to make friends with Margo, the Art major from Greenwich Village who's "only going here because I didn't get into NYU.::roll of her eyes::"
wahwahwah.

ps-for those you who took any english classes with me the last two years, i just got my books for my british lit class, and they're alllllll from the Norton Anthology.  turns out, it never goes away.  oh yeah, and it contains both the canterbury tales and its ugly red-headed step-sister paradise lost.
AWESOME.

but i'm serious about the addresses, please.

i hope everyone is doing exceedingly well in college, or whereever you might be. i dont head off to campus life until january, which leaves me plenty of free time to go visit gary-berry-quite-contrary up in the gator nation on the weekends. this past weekend i traveled up on friday to go to the alaBAMA-florida game...and pictures ensued.

i applaud all those who can still keep livejournal relevant, interesting, and lively. i read all your entries.
yes, even you.

being that i mostly just use live journal as a means to get my daily comic fix, i concur with ms. rolfsen in that no one really uses good ol' lj anymore. sigh. but as a psa, i'd just like to recommend "thank you for smoking" at a theater near you, as it was dastardly funny and included a cast of comic genius (minus movie-herpes little mrs. kate/katie cruise/holmes/mother of "suri"). or as samuel beckett would say, it was "tre bong."

coldplay last night.
i'd be amiss if i didnt give at least a nod on here to their musical/live prowess.
except a drunk woman with her tool of a husband was swaying back and forth all night.
but that was ok because estelle and i sang along to everything.
and we thought it noteworthy that kids thought they were in for proclaiming how drunk they were...what they apparently didnt get the memo about: they were at a coldplay concert.
and you know what, i dont care if fiona apple was a raging, scratching mess up there - the girl's still got it somewhere. somewhere.
oh yes, and them doing Ring of Fire - amazing.

i suppose i should send in my college application sometime soon. i guess.
